There are many titles on the market which will give you some of the information you need when purchasing a property in Italy. Every property, and every location is different, so in addition to at least two or three good books you will need to ask advice and search around on the internet to fill in any remaining knowledge gaps.
Of all the books, Buying a House in Italy: Where and How to Do It by C. Gordon Neale is probably the best overall. Priced at just over £8.00 it represents great value with over 250 pages packed with vital information.
Slightly cheaper (and a little less helpful) is The Complete Guide to Buying Property in Italy: Buying, Restoring, Renting, Letting and Selling by Barbara McMahon.
The most recently published/revised is the Teach Yourself Guide to Buying a Home in Italy published in January 2005 for just over £10. A slightly longer and more detailed guide is The Sunday Times Buying a Property: Italy which is now a little out of date, or try Buying a Property in Italy by Amanda Hinton.
