Italy > Tuscany

Tuscany, located in central Italy, is notorious for its artistic history, fine foodand exceptional wines. This well-known Italian province is home to the great cities of Florence, Sienna, and Pisa. The countryside isequally impressive, surrounding many scenic hillside towns and Italy’s finest wine region, Chianti.

The gentle climate in and around the area provides the perfect compliment to a beautiful Tuscan home. The warm Tuscan sun ripens Chianti’s Sangiovese grapes to perfection while the cool winters rarely drop below moderately tolerable temperatures.

There are a variety of homes available throughout the region that exemplify traditional Tuscan architecture and a classic Mediterranean feel. Many of the houses now being purchased were once large estates owned by tenant farmers which were renovated in order to provide a perfect combination of modern day luxury and old world charm.

Textured, sun-washed walls complimented by deep window recesses and gentle, earth tone colors bring a certain charisma to the inside of Tuscan homes. Porticos are especially popular in this region, and in combination with the rustic terracotta tile roofs and courtyard gardens, they give the exterior of these homes a welcoming appeal.

Tuscany is famous for its countryside farms, olive groves and vineyards. The region is quite diverse in terrain and its landscape varies from the rolling hills of the famous ‘land of vineyards’, Chianti—to the sandy beaches of the sunny TyrrhenianCoast, all the way to the snowy peaks of the ApennineMountains.

Spectacular landscapes and lively towns offer residents unique recreational experiences. In Florence, Tuscany’s capital, locals stroll through the fifteenth-century shops on the Ponte Vecchio and marvel at the city’s famous chapels, galleries and museums that are renowned for their display of Renaissance art.
A short distance from Florence lays the Tuscan town of Siena. This town is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture, plentiful museums, sweet delicacies and its yearly celebration of one of the world’s most historical sporting events - the Palio.

Pisa, the birthplace of the legendary astronomer and physicist Galileo, was recognized for centuries as a major nautical port. There are many activities to do in this small town, ranging from visiting small local maritime museums to shopping in Pisa’s well-known shopping district, the Borgo Stretto.

In each of these cities, you will find not only places of interest and entertainment, but also fine cuisine. Traditional Tuscan meals are made up primarily of local produce and braised or roasted game such as deer, boar and rabbit. Beef Steak Florentine also regularly makes it way onto the Tuscan menu along with rich, hearty soups and unsalted bread. An elegant Chianti wine tastefully compliments any formal Tuscan dining experience and completes the meal in true Tuscan tradition.

Homes and properties in Tuscany have been appealing to international buyers and visitors for many years. From the art treasures of Florence, to the castles of Siena—all the way to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Tuscany is truly an enriching and fascinating place to live.
